Rochelle Strauss: Hello. My name is Rochelle Strauss. My last name, Strauss, is German for ostrich. When I was growing up, we would always take family portraits at the zoo in front of the ostriches. I continue to do the same with my son today. An ostrich is also proudly featured as the logo for my company, Strauss House. Rochelle, I believe, comes from the Hebrew name, Rahell, and it means yoo lamb or female lamb. I am named after my great grandmother. The English equivalent of Rahell would have been Rachael, but at the time of my birth, my mother says there were too many Rachaels around and she wanted something more unique. So, she tweaked it a bit and called me Rochelle instead. As a child, I grew up being called Rock, Roe and, if you can believe it, Roach. But, I prefer the longer version of my name. Rochelle.
