Mercer Mayer: Hello. My name is Mercer Mayer. Mayer as in bear but I'm not a bear, I'm Mayer. And my first name Mercer is really the name of a very old English trade where they sold cotton. Anybody who sold cotton in merry old England was called a Mercer, M-E-R-C-E-R. Not a purser, not a burser, not a snurser, a Mercer.
