John Fleischman: Hello. My name is John Fleischman. Fleischman is a German name and it's much too long. When I was in school, I was always filling out my name still on the top of the test when everybody else was taking it. In German, Fleisch means meat and a fleischman is really a butcher. I don't speak German, but my father did speak German and when I was a kid, my father told me that fleischman meant a man who deals with lots and lots of cattle. In other words, fleischman meant cowboy. I fell for it like a ton of bricks and it wasn't for a few years that I suddenly figured out that there weren't too many cowboys roaming around Germany in the time when my ancestors were roaming around Germany.
