HP Newquist: Hello, my name is HP Newquist. The easy part of my name is Newquist. It's the name my great-grandfather took when he came to America from Sweden in the 1800s. Newquist means new branch in Swedish, and he was starting a new branch of the family. The HP stands for Harvey Paul. When I was in college, all my friends just called each other by their initials. There were so many Mikes, and Bills, and Matts, it cut down the confusion. When I started writing though, I'd use my entire name, which is Harvey Paul Newquist III. I was named after my father and my grandfather. But I ended up writing that so often, and it took so long, that I shortened it as far as I could to just HP Newquist, and I eliminated the periods. Any shorter and it would be HPN, just like it was all those years ago in college.
