Michelle Markel: Hello. My name is Michelle Markel. Yes, my last name rhymes with my first name. My mom liked the sound of French, so she named me Michelle after my dad's grandpa Michael from Romania. The Markels came from what is now the Ukraine. One of my great grandfathers was a tailor, and the other was a shoemaker, but my dad is probably the reason I'm on this recording. He loved to make up preposterous bedtime stories for my sister and I when we were little. He made storytelling look easy and fun.
