M. Sarah Klise: Hi my name is M. Sarah Klise. The M stands for Mary, my first name. I've never been called Mary, and even have another sister with Mary as her first name. That would be Mary Julia. And I even have another sister, Margaret Mary, so Mary is her second name. Kate and I, my sister Kate, the author, we have a grandmother who's name is the exact same name as mine, Mary S. Klise. Which is where the Mary comes from. This has caused more than a little confusion over the years with folks at various banks, and even the IRS. Money being put in one account, mainly mine, and missing from hers. So I have found it easiest to hang on to the M before Sarah to make sure everyone knows who they are contacting. And then there's Klise, pronounced exactly as it looks. And we learned back in second grade, long I and a silent e.
