Dandi Daley Mackall: Hello. My name is Dandi Daily Mackall. Mackall is not often pronounced right. It is Mackall and you can kind of think of it as rhyming with cackle. I grew up with the name Dandi Daily so I guess I should've known I'd be a children's writer. It just sounds right, don't you think? A girl named Dandi? When I was young my dad used to call me Dan as a nickname and when I was 10 I entered my first essay contest. Only you were supposed to be a boy. So I signed it Dan Daily and I won. The winner got to be a bat boy for the Kansas City A's. Only when they found out I was a girl they wouldn't let me do it. So sad stories in a girl named Dan.

But I like my name and I think I'll keep it. By the way, the Kansas City A's made it up to me and the Royals let me be bat boy only last year.
