Dinah Johnson: Hi, my name is Dinah Johnson. I was born Diane Anita Johnson. Then my name became Diane Johnson Feelings. When I married the children's book illustrator Tom Feelings. When I got my first book contract, I changed my name from Diane Johnson to Dinah Johnson because there are hundreds of people named Diane Johnson. Sometimes I wish that I had chosen the pen name Djeneba Johnson because Djeneba is the name given to me on my first trip to West Africa, and being African American is very important to me. On the other hand, I love the name Dinah because I love the music of jazz singer, Dinah Washington, but most importantly, because it's the name my parents always called me. I love being Dinah Johnson.
