J.L. Powers: Hello. My name is J. L. Powers. The J stands for Jessica and the L stands for Lynn. I've had many nicknames in my life: Jess, Jessie, Jessie James, even The Beast. While I was learning the Zulu language, I was given a Zulu name, Nobuhle, which means "mother of beauty." That's been my favorite nickname ever since. I've always liked my name, Jessica Powers, because it makes me sound like somebody important. When I'm on the phone with people and I'm telling them how to spell my last name, I'm able to say, "My last name is Powers as in the powers that be." People always laugh. There are a lot of people with the last name Powers in the United States, and if Facebook is any indication, we all love our last name.
