Mychal Copeland: My name is Mychal, and my parents wanted to name me Mychal as soon as they knew that I was a girl. They thought that was a great name and they admired an actress from long ago whose name was Mychal, and they thought that was just great. I was also named after a cousin of mine. So, when they went to the rabbi and asked them about the name the rabbi said, "You cannot name a girl Mychal. She will hate you. She's going to be so upset." So they moved the name Mychal to my middle name and named me Heather. When I learned all of this, when I was probably 10 or 11 or 12, I loved the name Mychal. I thought it was the perfect name, and I switched the order myself. And now I go by Mychal Heather, instead of Heather Mychal.
