Glenn Erick Miller: Hello. My name is Glenn Erick Miller. When my grandfather came to the United States from Finland, in the 1920s, he changed his name from Johannes Erikki Myllylä to John Erick Miller. He was 19 at the time. And, as immigrants passed through Ellis Island, in New York City, looking for new opportunities and a better life, they often changed their names to something more common in hopes that it would help them fit in better. There's also a famous band leader from the 1930s and 1940s named Glenn Miller. And, although my parents didn't name me after him or so they say, people that I meet for the first time sometimes joke if we're related, and we're not. But it's still a pretty cool name.
