Uma Mishra-Newbery: Hi, my name is Uma Mishra. It is a name that I have always loved but as a child I was ruthlessly teased for my name when I was growing up in West Michigan. My name is also the name of the Hindu goddess, Parvati. And in Sanskrit, Uma can also mean tranquility. Another reason I love my name Uma is because it translates in many different languages and has various meanings across different languages in the world. One in particular that I love is Ummah in Arabic means community. And so I love my name, Uma.
