Amanda Foody: My name is Amanda Foody. My first name, Amanda, I believe it comes from Latin. It means "lovable" or "worthy of love." And it was an extremely popular name to name kids back in the 90s. I think there were three Amandas in most of my classrooms growing up.

And my last name is pronounced Foody, like the other version of the word foodie that ends in I-E. It is originally an Irish last name. The spelling of it has been changed in order to be easier to read in English. I believe the original spelling of it, it was actually O'Fuada. So it would have been O, apostrophe, capital F... I might get this wrong, but I think it was F-U-A-D-A.

And I believe it derives from a term meaning "swift" or possibly "thief."
And I think it also can trace its lineage to, I think, an old Irish folk legend about Niall of the Nine Hostages, which sounds fancier than it is, because I think a lot of Irish names can trace their lineage to that same story. And yeah, I believe that's where it comes from. And it's also a very uncommon name. I have never met anyone else who isn't related to me that has that name. Most people, I think it is changed to Swift.
