Growing up, I was the only Fukuda outside my immediate family I knew. And I thought it was a very unique name and that no one else in the world had it, outside my family. But after college I had the chance to live in Japan for a while and I soon quickly realized that Fukuda is one of the most common names in Japan. It's probably the equivalent of a Smith or a Johnson here. I thought I had a very unique name, but it turned out to be very commonplace in Japan.
