Mya Thompson: Hello. My name is Mya Thompson.
My name actually came from the author Maya Angelou. When I was born my parents named me Jessica for a few days, but they kept looking at me and looking at me and they decided I wasn't a Jessica at all. They had just heard Maya Angelou on the radio and they thought, "Wow, what a beautiful name." So they decided to name me Maya.
But they thought that M-A-Y-A, the way Maya Angelou, the great author, spells it ... They decided that M-Y-A might be an easier spelling for people who didn't already know the name.
