Angie Thomas: Hi, my name is Angie Thomas. My actual name is Angela, but for most of my life everyone has called me Angie. I was actually named after my mom's childhood best friend whose name was Angela. My mom tells me that when they were little girls they made a pact that when they would have daughters, they would name their daughters after one another. My mom's best friend ended up having boys, so she didn't name any after my mom but my mom kept the promise and named me Angela in honor of her. When I was little I was always Angie, and in the neighborhood I was known as Baby Angie. I am an adult now, and people still call me Baby Angie but that's because I was the youngest kid on the block. I was always running around with the older kids, getting into stuff I probably shouldn't have been doing but it was all good. They always called me baby Angie, so I just took the baby off and I decided as an author I'd be Angie Thomas. Even now to this day I've had old friends from the neighborhood come to my book signings and they've asked me to sign my book as Baby Angie. I try not to get upset, you can't lose some nicknames.
