Steven B. Frank: Hi. My name is Steven B. Frank. Frank was not the original family last name, but back in the 1930s and '40s, my grandmother had a radio show, and she called it Frankly Speaking with Francis Frank. So she actually used that as her kind of stage name. And, so as far as my first name goes, well I was a great disappointment to my parents because they already had two boys, and they were going for a third kid with the expectation that it would be a girl to mix things up in the family. And when I was born a boy, the third in the family, the only name that they had picked out was Stephanie. And so they realize that the S, of course, was in honor of my grandfather whose name was Shalom, which in Hebrew means peace. And so they named me Steven because that was sort of the closest thing to Stephanie.
And one funny thing to tell you about my name is that I used to play tennis, and if ever I would get frustrated and miss an easy shot, I would be slapping my thigh and saying, Stephanie, how could you miss that shot? So in a way, I kept the name that my parents would have given me had I been a girl just for those occasions when I needed to let out a little bit of steam.
