Mark David Smith: Hello, my name is Mark David Smith. That's Mark with a K, and Smith with an I. Now, some of the smarty pants in the room will likely point out that a smith is an occupational name, meaning one who works with metal, and will likely tell you that my ancestors were once blacksmiths, putting shoes on horses or, better yet, goldsmiths, fashioning rings for nobles. But, alas, it is not so for me. In fact, not so for most Smiths. For in the past, Smith was one of the most common choices for people fleeing the law. When they escaped to a new land, they called themselves Smith, so no one would learn about their shady past.
But, even that adventure doesn't fit into my name's history. For I was actually born with the name Jetty, and was adopted at eight years old when my mother remarried a man named Smith, who, I'm afraid, was neither a metalworker or a thief, so far as I can tell.
