Anna Grossnickle Hines: Hello, my name is Anna Grossnickel Hines. Grossnickel is an old German name. My great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather came to this country in 1746 and settled in the Maryland area. When I was a child, no one ever called me just Anna. I was always Anna Marie, until I moved to California, and when the teacher said, "Anna" and the other kids started calling me that, I didn't change it; I stayed with the shorter name. But I was surprised one day when one of the kids said, "Anna, is there anything shorter we can call you?"
