Patty Loew: Hello. My name is Patty Loew, spelled L-O-E-W. It's German. My father was German-American. My mother is a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, as I am.

Lowe, spelled L-O-W-E, is a pretty prominent name in the Ho-Chunk nation. And so a lot of people here in Wisconsin actually think I'm Ho-Chunk, but I'm Ojibwe. I also have an Ojibwe name,Waswa Kinokwe, which translates to spearing fish by torch light woman. It was given to my by and Anishinaabe elder on the Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe Reservation, which I was in my 20s. It's a name I treasure.
