I don't really have any funny stories about it, but I'll tell you that the middle initial, M, stands for Matthews, which was my mother's maiden name, and that my parents wanted to name me Mary, not Ann. But then they realized my name would be Mary Martin, and that was the name of a famous actress at the time I was born, and they didn't want to saddle me with that, either.
