Nancy I. Sanders: Hello, my name is Nancy I. Sanders. The "I" stands for Ida. I have always loved my middle name Ida because I was named after someone who was very important in my family. You see, Ida was my father's great grandmother, but not only that, Ida was related to my mother, too. Ida was my mother's great great grandmother. That means my father and my mother were related. In fact, when they went to the county courthouse to get their wedding license, the courthouse told them they could not get married because they were related.
So my mom and dad hurried back to their homes and they dug up old family records to show the authorities. The final decision was that since Ida was a great grandma on one side and a great great grandma on the other side, that it was actually okay for my mom and dad to get married. Phew ... I'm glad they did. They went on to have a whole passel of children, five girls and then a boy, and then I was born ... the youngest of seven children.
So they decided to name my middle name Ida after one of the relatives that was related to both of them. I say one, because they're also both related to an ancestor named Abraham, but that's another story.
