Angela Cerrito: Hello. My name is Angela Cerrito. My parents couldn't decide on a first name for me so I spent almost three days without a name. Until the nurse told my mother, if you don't give your daughter a name right now I'm going to pick one out myself and write it on the birth certificate.

I didn't change my last name when I got married. Many people have trouble pronouncing Cerrito. I tell them it rhymes with burrito.

My grandfather and my great grandparents came to the United States from Sicily. In Sicily, our last name is pronounced Cerrito. I remember my great grandmother making me practice saying it over and over again.

Cerrito. Cerrito. I'm glad she did, because now when I visit my cousins in Sicily, I can pronounce my name correctly.

My great grandmother didn't often speak English, but there was one phrase she always said to me. "Tell your mama to quit watering your feet. You grow too tall."
