Kekauleleana'ole Kawai'aea: Aloha. My name is Kekauleleana'ole Kawai'aea.

My family calls me Kekauleleana'ole, or if they're in a hurry, just leana'ole. My name was given to me in a very traditional Hawaiian way, by my grandfather's musical mentor. He had been trained in the art of name giving.

When my grandfather received the phone call, he was told it was moeʻuhane or a dream name.

In the Hawaiian culture, one's name was considered their most prized possession.

So now you know the story of how I received my name and the meaning behind, which is found in the book, Kohala Kuamo'o: Nae'ole's Race to Save a King.
