Hester Bass: Hello, my name is Hester Bass. I think that Hester has either Persian, Greek or Dutch origins and that it means star. I love my name, but it is unusual and I was teased about it quite a bit when I was growing up in a small town in Georgia. When I went to college in Boston, I was dumbfounded to discover that Hester as a first name is rather common there. I write as Hester Bass, but officially I have four names. When I married I kept my first middle and last name and simply added my husband's name, which is Bass. It is often mispronounced as bass, as in bass guitar, so I usually say it's Bass like the fish. So I guess you could say that Hester Bass means starfish.
