Rebecca Rupp: Hi. My name is Rebecca ROOP, not "Rupp," even though that's the way it's spelled. It's one of those little tricks of phonics. Rupp is my married name. I share it with my husband, and our three sons. Rebecca, however, is all mine. Though probably the most interesting part of my name is my middle name, which is Sartwell. That name goes back to an ancestor named Jemima Sartwell, who lived here in Vermont where I'm from back in the mid-1700s. She was captured by Indians during the French and Indian War, and taken to Canada along with her seven kids. Thought eventually they all made it back home again, which was pretty remarkable, and she ended up living to a ripe old age. She seems to have been a brave and resourceful lady, and though I pretty much like the name Rebecca, I kind of wish I'd been named Jemima after her.
