Aidan Chambers: Hello, my name is Aidan Chambers. Aidan is spelled A-I-D-A-N. My family name is Chambers, but Aidan isn't the name my parents gave me when I was born. I never liked the names they gave me, so when my first book was published, I chose the name I wanted. Aidan is an old Celtic word which means fire. It was the name of a very famous saint who lived about 1400 years ago in an island near where I grew up off the northeast coast of England. I heard many stories about him when I was a child and visited the island and always liked him and his name, and I liked that Aidan means fire because fire in a person means they're passionate and I think if you're going to do something you should do it with passion.
