Rachna Gilmore: Hello, my name is Rachna Gilmore. One way to remember how to pronounce Rachna is to remember that it's "ch" as in "children," and that I'm a children's author. It's also "ch" as in chocolate, and I love chocolate. The only pronunciation I really don't like is "Rock-nah," because it sounds like you're coughing up a fur ball.

Gilmore is easy to pronounce, but I wasn't born Rachna Gilmore. I was born Rachna Kalra. Gilmore is my husband's last name. We were married in England, and at the time, I would've had to fill out extra papers to keep my maiden name, so I didn't bother.

The name Rachna, though, comes from India where I was born. One of my aunt's suggested it. It's an unusual name, even in India, so I'm used to having it mispronounced, but it turned out to be prophetic because it means "creation," or "literature."
