Emmily Magtalas-Rhodes: Hi, my name is Emmily Magtalas-Rhodes. Magtalas is actually my maiden name, and it comes from the Tagalog word talas, which means to sharpen. Because my first name Emmily has two Ms, people always misspell it. It's a combination of my father's initials, E-M-M, and the shortened version of my mother's name, Milagros. Filipinos love to merge their parents' names to create a new name, or put a twist in the spelling of a familiar one. Apart from my last name, you could say I have a very Filipino name.
