Matt Ralphs: So my name is Matt Ralphs, and I'm usually called Matt; unless someone is angry with me, then I'm Matthew. If it's Matthew, then my ears pick up, and I know I've done something wrong. Matthew is of Middle Eastern origin, I believe, and it's biblical, and it means gift from God. And I think that was probably given to me by my parents because they are Catholic and they must have considered me to be a gift from God. I don't know why, because I was probably as noisy and annoying as most babies were, but perhaps they named me that before I made a lot of noise and kept them awake at night.

And Ralphs is from a completely different place; it's Germanic, Northern Europe. It means something like counselor or wolf, which I think sounds really, really cool. I'm quite fascinated by the Vikings and the Northern Europeans of the sort of Viking era. So to have those sorts of two different places in my name is quite fascinating. And actually, everyone should look up the heritage of their name because there are always stories in there and interesting facts. It often tells you a little bit about, if not yourself, then the people who named you. And so that's me; that's Matt Ralphs.
