Pamela Porter: Hi, my name's Pamela Porter. The name Porter goes all the way back to the British Isles when people used to carry heavy loads. Porters were the people who carried lots of heavy things for other people and that was their job. And when our Porters moved to Canada, they continued to carry heavy loads because they became farmers and carried heavy loads of wheat and grain and barley and all kinds of things in their wagons.
