Book Descriptions
for Mine, Mine, Mine, Yours! by Kimberly Gee
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
An appealing book of opposites opens with an Asian mom and a Black mom showing up at the house of a Black dad with their toddlers in tow for a playdate. Their typical toddler activities are described with the same pattern of three repeated words, followed by one opposite word, e.g. “Hide hide hide … find. / Stop stop stop … go!” while spirited watercolor-and-ink illustrations show the friends playing on a slide, jumping around, sharing toys (or not), having a snack, and so forth. Throughout, the dad in charge of the playdate appears as a playful, guiding presence who is clearly comfortable with letting the toddlers be themselves. (Ages 1-3)
