Ralph was rotten. He was just as rotten as he could be. He didn't care that Sarah loved him. She loved him in spite of his making fun of her, ruining her parties, chasing Mother's favorite birds and blowing soap bubbles from Father's favorite pipe. Ralph was Sarah's cat. But one day Ralph went too far. He did things that no cat should ever do. It happened at the circus. "You are worse than rotten, Ralph," said Father. "Sometimes you are very hard to love," said Sarah. And so he was. Sarah's love finally wins through and Ralph learns that being just a little bit nice can have its rewards. And so he changes his rotten ways - except for sometimes when the temptations are too great even for a kindly, considerate and greatly reformed Ralph.
