Each page spread highlights one or more creatures, and begins with a simple descriptive phrase in display text: “A nest is noisy … enormous … tiny … spiky … papery … pebbly.” A fascinating lengthier narrative provides information on how each animal builds (or chooses) its nest. Beautifully detailed watercolor illustrations grace each page. The choice of cursive for the display font is the one shortcoming of this lovely volume. Many children today are not taught cursive and this may be a barrier to some readers. (Ages 8–12)
