Book Descriptions
for Chase Me, Catch Nobody! by Erik Christian Haugaard
From The Jane Addams Children's Book Award
Erik never paid much attention to politics. In 1930's Denmark, he coasted through a typical childhood. Then, a class trip to Nazi Germany shakes him awake. Amid the Hitler Youth who fill the streets, he befriends Nikolai Karl Leon Linde, a boy with as many political opinions as his name implies. The two accept a parcel from a strange man in a gray overcoat. This sparks a chain of events that propels them into the fringes of the underground resistance that is tirelessly working to relocate as many Jewish Germans as possible. The fate of a young girl is on the line and Erik must choose how far he is willing to go for another human being and decide if a "nobody" can be a somebody after all.
