Book Description
for Pee and Poo by Susanna Isern and Mar Ferrero
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
When it comes to pee and poo, the last thing anyone wants is a mishap. This practical, straightforward guide to toilet etiquette encourages best bathroom practices for young people who may need a few reminders. As animal friends gather for food and fun at Koala’s birthday party, “certain needs pop up.” Feeling nature’s call throughout the day, characters visit the bathroom while a snail in the illustrations provides friendly tips in unobtrusive balloon bubbles: “Don’t wait until the last minute to go to the bathroom, even if you’re having fun.” “Be sure to wipe well … to avoid getting irritated skin.” “Say excuse me if a fart slips out.” Mishaps do abound, providing plenty of teachable moments. Squirrel opens the bathroom door without knocking, only to find that Cat is inside; startled, Cat loses his aim and has to clean up his mess afterward. Turtle loiters on the toilet with his Rubik’s Cube as a line of desperate friends forms outside. And Lioness uses the last of the toilet paper to make a mummy costume, forgetting to replace the roll (which causes problems for Panda). Bathroom humor is absent; the emphasis is on helping kids navigate common scenarios and avoid bathroom faux pas.
