Anu Chouhan: Hi. My name is Anu Chouhan. My full name is Anukam but I like to go as Anu. And so the best way to pronounce my name is emphasis on the Ah, so Anu, and then my last name it has a U in there but I always tell people to ignore it, so it's cho-hahn, Anu Chouhan.

So my full name Anukam means "one without comparison." It's like a fancy way of saying "unique," and it's a Sanskrit name. It's actually typically a male name. The female equivalent is Anukama, but my parents decided to call me Anukam, and I just kind of rolled with it as a kid. I never really appreciated my name because of the fact that every time I had a substitute teacher, they always mispronounced it, and it always drove me crazy.

When you take the name Anu on its own, it means "molecule" or "atom," like the central part of something. And I always thought I was really cool once I started to realize how, kind of, special my name was. And even now I still really like the shortened version of my name. Even though I still keep of course my full legal name, I just like to go by Anu because I feel like it's such a unique name and I think I'm a pretty unique person, so I think it's a perfect name for me.
